Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. divested its interest in Ovonyx, Inc. to Micron Technology, Inc. Quarton Partners acted as the exclusive financial advisor to ECD in managing the sale process.
Client
Ovonyx, Inc. was formed with the charter to commercialize its proprietary phase-change semiconductor memory (“PCM”) technology. Ovonyx nonvolatile PCM technology offers faster write and erase speeds, higher cycling endurance, and better scaling performance than conventional Flash memory. Relative to DRAM, PCM eliminates the refresh power by retaining its memory without power. Ovonyx is pursuing commercialization of its array-addressed memory systems through licenses and joint development programs with semiconductor manufacturers. Ovonyx has an extensive intellectual property portfolio consisting of 231 issued and 103 filed patents.
Buyer
Micron Technology, Inc., is a global leader in advanced semiconductor systems. Micron’s broad portfolio of high-performance memory technologies including DRAM, NAND and NOR Flash is the basis for solid state drives, modules, multichip packages and other system solutions. Backed by more than 35 years of technology leadership, Micron’s memory solutions enable the world’s most innovative computing, consumer, enterprise storage, networking, mobile, embedded and automotive applications.
